THE PROPER WAY TO COOK HOTDOG - BY THE PAUPERED CHEF
First, add a little water to a skillet, just enough to barely cover half the pan. Heat it up until it begins to steam off, then add the hot dogs. Allow them to steam as the water boils off completely--I’m told that this pulls some of the salt out. You may need to tilt the skillet and drain off the last tablespoon or so. |
Next, add a tablespoon of butter for each dog. Because, why not. The hot dog will begin to blister and turn all sorts of savory colors. In the meantime, toast your buns. |
THE PROPER WAY TO TOAST HOT DOG BUN BY - E-HOW
- Add a light coating of butter. Traditional hot dog buns become more flavorful if a very thin layer of butter is placed on top before toasting.
- Place the buns on the grill while you are cooking your hot dog. Put the buns face down on the grill, preferably the top rack. The hot dog buns only take a minute or two to get toasted.
- Use the broiler to toast hot dog buns. A broiler can usually fit at least four or more buns at one time. Toast them on a low setting for a couple of minutes until they are golden brown.
- You put the buns face down and let them travel through the toaster until they are warmed. For darker buns, you may want to put the buns through several times.
