BLESSING FRIDAY WITH MALAYSIAN ONION PANCAKE / LEMPENG BAWANG




These pancakes always remind me of my late father. It's his favourite breakfast menu and my mom will prepared this with either "sambal tumis sardin" or sardine curry. I don't really know whether the new generation today know about this dish but it used to be a favourite during my school days. I still love this but normally I made this for tea. Today I made these pancakes for breakfast. Served with Sambal Tumis Sardine.....my goodness it's finger licking good.


Malaysian Onion Pancakes





The perfect breakfast menu serve with leftover curries or sambal tumis.

Ingredients

2 cups all purpose flour / 2 cawan tepung
2 1/2 cups water / 2 1/2 cawan air
1 egg / 1 biji telur
1/2 tsp turmeric powder / 1/2 sdt serbuk kunyit
1 onion thinly slice / 1biji bawang dihiris nipis
1/2 tsp salts / 1/2 sdt garam

  1. Combine the flour, turmeric powder, slice onions and salts and add in water, egg  and whisk. 
  2. The batter should look bit thicker than crepe batter, and thinner than normal pancake batter.
  3. Heat your frying pan to medium heat, if not using a nonstick pan add 1/2 teaspoon butter to the pan.
  4. Pour 1/4 cup of the batter onto the hot greased frying pan.
  5. Reduce Heat and wait until the surface of the pancake is full of holes, then flip the pancake and let it cook until golden brown patches appear.


Bila buat lempeng ini teringat arwah ayah dan umi..memanglah lempeng ini favourite dia orang. Selalunya buat lempeng ini bila ada lebihan kari semalam atau kadang kala tu buat sambal tumis sardin untuk dimakan bersama lempeng ini. Wee....kalau sudah makan cukup mengasyikkan. Saya memang suka lempeng ini tapi selalunya saya buat masa hujung minggu diwaktu petang. Membuatnya sama macam pancake lain cuma bancuhanya adunanya tidak terlalu nipis dan tidak terlalu tebal...antara kuih dadar dan pancake. Bawang dimasukan dalam adunan dan sebab itulah ianya dinamakan lempeng bawang. Orang-orang dolu-dolu dan orang lama memang suka lempeng ini...tetapi saya kurang pasti samada generasi sekarang tahu tak lempeng ini. Cukup sesuai buat sarapan pagi dan sajian petang.

Kalau ctlah yang akan lemeng bawang ni, kompom penuh biir pinggan tu dengan bawang2 jer ..hahaha. kalau dadu kecil2 masih boleh terima lagi Kak.

Anak2 ct memang suka makan lempeng, nak2 yang bongsu tu kalau cecah lempeng mesti dengan gula pasir aje :)
