SAVOURY ONION CREPES WITH SAMBAL SARDINE

This is a typical Malay breakfast dish especially with the southern people. Roti Bawang or Lempeng Bawang is really popular there. Serve with leftover curry, sambal or Asam Pedas. I remembered my mum used to make this for breakfast. I hardly make this my children don't really fancy it, since today I'm home alone again so I made it for my breakfast. It's simple, just like any ordinary crepes except this is a savoury type I added some sliced onions and turmeric powder. Yeah!!! have last night leftover sambal sardine made it a perfect combination for breakfast.

crêpe is a type of very thin pancake (usually made from wheat flour) which the word is of French origin, deriving from the Latin crispa, meaning “curled.” Crêpes  are originally  from Brittany, a region in the northwest of France, their consumption is widespread in France and they are considered a national dish, and they are also increasingly popular in North America and South America…
Here is a simple recipe for 12 crepes :
Ingredients

  •  3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 water
  • 2 Cups of milk / coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sliced onions
  • 1/2 tsp  turmeric powder
  • Direction for Crepes
Whisk together the flour, butter, eggs, milk, water, turmeric powder and  salt until you form a smooth, thin batter.Add in sliced onions Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before proceeding.
Heat a heavy 6-inch skillet or crepe pan over medium-high heat. When hot, brush with a light coating of the remaining butter or oil. Pour about 1/4 cup of crepe batter into the pan. Cook until golden brown .

I like the idea, maybe I'll fry the onion and then add it to the crepe batter, I love the flavor of caramelized onions. Thanks for sharing Fatima :)

It's my late mum favorite, we love it with sardine sambal.
