WANTAN BAG / UNCANG WANTAN



I actually got this recipe from Chef Wan, cooking program. Wanton Bag  is a true Chinese snack.  Wanton Bag is make with chicken fillings stuff in Wanton pastry.You can serve this with chili sauce and salads. Its crispy and tasty. Perfect Tea Time menu.

INGREDIENTS

1 packet of wonton skin / 1 paket kulit wanton
3 screw pine leaves, cut into thin strips about 10cm long / 3 helai daun pandai disiat memanjang
1 stalk of spring onion, get the green portion chopped / 1 tangkai daun bawang
vegetable oil / minyak sayur
a small bowl of water (to seal the wonton skin) / air untuk melekatkan kulit wanton

Filling:

100 grams chicken, minced / 100 gm daging ayam kisar
110 grams medium-sized prawn, shelled, deveined and minced / 110 gm isi udang
2 dried shiitake mushroom, soaked, stalk removed and chopped / 2 cendawan shitake direndam dan dicincang
2 shallots, peeled and chopped / 2 biji bawang merah dicincang
3 clove garlic - crushed / 3 ulas bawang putih dicincang
3 water chestnut  chopped / 3 biji sengkuang Cina dicincang

Marinades for the filling:

1 tablespoon of light soy sauce / 1 sdb kicap cair
1 teaspoon of sesame oil / 1 sdt minyak bijan
½ teaspoon of oyster sauce / 1/2 sdt sos tiram
1 teaspoon of corn flour / 1 sdt tepung jagung
Dashes of pepper / serbuk lada sulah


PREPARATION
  1. Marinate the filling for 30 minutes./Perapkan bahan inti selama 30 minit
  2. Put a piece of wonton skin on a clean chop board. Add ½ teaspoon of filling to the center of wonton skin. Top the filling with chopped onion. Wrap up the wonton and tie it up with a pre-cut screw pine strip. / Letakkan kulit wanton di atas papan canai. Masukkan 1/2 sdt inti dan salutkan inti dengan bawang yang dicincang. bungkus seperti uncang dan ikat dengan menggunakan daun pandan.
  3. Repeat step 3 until the filling is used up. / Ulangi proses sehingga habis
  4. Heat oil in saucepan until hot. Drop bags into hot oil and flash fry until wrapper puffs up and turns golden, making sure that bags do not stick together./ Panaskan minyak dan goreng wanton sehingga kekuningan.
  5. Drain moneybags on absorbent paper. / Angkat dan toskan.Hidang bersama sos cili.

Wanton Bag atau Uncang Wanton merupakan snak makanan Cina diperbuat daripada isi ayam yang dibungkus seperti uncang wang menggunakan kulit wanton atau kulit popiah. saya mendapat resipi ini dari salah satu program masakan Chef Wan, dan cuma baru ini berkesempatan untuk membuatnya. Snak ini memang rapuh dan sesuai dihidangkan bersama cili sos dan kerabu. Untuk resipi ini saya hidangkan bersama salad/Kerabu epal hijau. Sedap, sesuai untuk jamuan petang. lebih hebat kalau dihidangkan panas-panas.

Kalau tidak mahu renyah, boleh buat jalan pintas dengan menggunakan bebola ikan atau ayam yang siap.

Whenever I had this wonton thingy at Ampang Yong Tauhu, I always wished that I could make this one on my own. Tapi bila balik rumah, mesti lupa nak cari recipe, now that I had yours on my link, I guess, thing would be easier. I'll try to make this on CNY and'll post in my entry.

You can do the short cut way , equally good. just wrap the wanton with ready made fish ball, chicken ball or even squid ball. Mudah aje. Mine tu terhangit sedikit suruh anak-anak goreng jadi macam tula.
