TEXAS SHEETS CAKE


Do you  know what a sheet cake is?   Here's some context on sheet cake by wikipedia :-

A sheet cake is a cake baked in a large, flat rectangular pan such as a sheet pan or a jelly roll pan. These single-layer cakes are almost always frosted, and may be decorated on the flat surface on the top. In the United States, these inexpensive cakes are commonly available in grocery stores, and are often served at office and birthday parties.

Sheet cakes may be made in any flavor, with chocolate and vanilla being the two most common. They are made from a single piece of cake. Ingredients, such as nuts, chocolate chips, or coconut may be stirred into the cake batter or sprinkled over the top.
If the cake has been split and filled, it becomes a layer cake.



Texas Sheet Cake (from Aunt Dorothy)
Yield: 12 servings
Prep Time: 15 minutes | Bake Time: 22 minutes
For the Cake:
1 cup vegetable shortening

1 cup water

4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup sour cream
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
For the Icing:
¼ cup vegetable shortening
6 tablespoons whole milk
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans - optional I used ice cream and oreo cookies
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 11×15-inch jelly roll pan.
2. Place the shortening, water, and cocoa powder in a large pot (at least 4 quarts) and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from the heat and whisk in the flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk well until thoroughly combined. Add the sour cream, eggs, and baking soda, and again whisk until thoroughly combined and batter is smooth.
3. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
4. Meanwhile, make the icing. In a 2-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the shortening, milk, and cocoa powder to a boil. Remove from the heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Stir in the chopped nuts.
5. When you remove the cake from the oven, immediately pour the hot icing over the cake, gently spreading it into an even layer over the cake. Let the icing set for about 30 minutes. The cake can be served warm or at room temperature.
Banyak betul projek terbengkalai sejak kebelakangan ni...bukanya tak ada bahan tetapi masa untuk upload dan menulis....ya allah memang tidak terkejar dibuatnya. Ini dah sibuk dengan puasa sunat Rejab dan Syaban lepas tu masuk Ramadan..memang banyak yang dimasak tetapi tersusun dalam folder....aleh-aleh anti ada yang tertinggal nanti. Kebetulan hari ini ada urusan diluar jadi tak masuk office saya gunakan kesempatan ini untuk upload projek terbengkalai ini. Sheet cake ini sebenar macam kek biasa aje cuma acuan yang digunakan ialah acuan  persegi panjang lebih kurang macam brownies...jadi kek ini tidaklah naik tinggi. Entahlah kadang-kadang saya pun naik confused banyak istilah yang digunakan apa pun kek ini memang sedaplah saya letakkan ice cream dan biskut orea.

Salam Paty...lama saya tak leave komen sebab line saya tersangat lah slow. Mlm nie baru rasa laju yang tak seberapa. Saya suka dengan kek coklat kukus awak dan yang ini nampak sedap.

Hmmm, I think I'll warm the cake a bit before adding the scoop of the ice cream so it cam melt all over it. The cake looks good Fatimah, chocolate and vanilla ice cream can never go wrong :)
