Cumi literally means squid in Indonesia. This is one of the Sundanese favourite curry, cooked in thick coconut milk with chilies and spices. Delectable curry of my family's favourite. Make a wonderful side dish for lunch or dinner.
INGREDIENTS
1kg fresh squids / 1 kg sotong basah
15 dried chilies / 15 tangkai cili kering
2" turmeric root / 2 kunyit hidup
2 lemongrass crushed / 2 batang serai diketuk
2 cups thick coconut milk / 2 cawan santan pekat
1 cup thin coconut milk / 1 cawan santan cair
5 kaffir leaves / 5 helai daun limau purut
1 tbsp white peppercorn / 1 sdb serbuk lada sulah
1 nutmeg - grind / 1 biji buah pala ditumbuk
2 tofu / 2 keping tofu
5 tbsp cooking oil / 5 sdb minyak masak
PREPARATIONS
- Clean squids and insert fresh tofu in/ Bersihkan sotong dan sumbatkan tahu ke dalamnya
- Heat up oil and saute grind ingredients until oil surface. Add lemograss and kaffir leaves./ Panaskan minyak dan masukkan bahan kisar. Tumis sehingga pecah minyak.Masukkan serai dan daun limau perut.
- Add in coconut milk stir until bubbling. / Masukkan santan dan kacau sehingga mendidih.
- Add in squids and constantly stir until squids are done. Add salts to taste/ Masukkan sotong dan kacau sehingga sotong masak. Adjust rasa.

Kepada yang meminati masakan Seberang. Gulai Cumi ini adalah salah satu daripadanya. Sotong disumbat dengan tofu dan dimasak seperti kita buat masak lemak. Enak makan bersama Nasi Panas dan sambal.
