BASBOUSA - EYGPTIAN


An arabian sweet delight! As easy as cake to make and delicious with the syrup.

Ha...ha..yang  ada kencing manis jangan rapat....kek suji ini cukup terkenal di negara teluk. Setiap negara mempunyai panggilanya tersendiri...kalau di Eygpt di panggil Basbousa..di Turki dipanggil Revani..dan hampir setiap negara teluk ada manisan ini.


Manisan ini direndam dengan air gula dan ditabur kekacang seperti badam atau pistacchio. Mudah membuatnya dan merupakan favourite untuk berbuka puasa.




Ingredients

  •  2 cups fine semolina (wheat semolina is best)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder.
  • 1/2 cup dry coconut
  • 1/2 cup of butter/or margarine
  • 4tbsp of canola oil
  • 3 tablespoon orange blossom water or rose water or 1      teaspoon pure vanilla
  • 1 cup 2% plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup white or brown sugar


For lite sugar syrup

  • ·         1/2 cup white or brown sugar
  • ·         1/2 cup of water
  • ·         1 teaspoon lemon juice.
  • ·         1 tablespoon orange blossom
  • ·         1 small cinnamon stick(optional)
  • ·         1tsp of margarine to grease the baking tray.
  • ·         1/2 cup whole or chopped nuts for garnish(I used already grilled almonds and            macadamia nuts)

How to make it

  1. In a large bowl,mix the semolina, baking powder, sugar.
  2. Add butter, oil, yogurt and blossom water, mix well (with hands, no machine please!) until smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Add dry coconut at the very end.
  4. the dough should be a little solid but very moist. if not moist enough, add a little bit of  milk.
  5. Grease the baking dish little bit of margarine
  6. Pour your basbousa dough and spread it evenly .Garnish it with nuts insert them       partially in to the mixture.
  7. Set the tray aside for 30mIn.
  8. Poke the basbousa with a fork a little everywhere and pour syrup. let stand for 15mn, serve!
  9. Bake for 30  minutes
