Birthday Girl Ayu got two cakes, one chocolate sponge cake and the other one is a mini cupcake. The mini cupcake was for her to take back to campus for her friends who missed the party. This chocolate layer sponge cake was a recipe from Chef Amer Hamzah I found in foodie magazine Saji April 2012. The original recipe was Black Forest Torte but I just took the sponge cake and layered it with marshmallow frosting. Simple with some ground peanut outside and some fresh strawberry. As I said earlier I am not good in cake decorating, I always used the ready available decorative items. Anyway this recipe is soft, fluffy, light and not to dry.
Chocolate Sponge Cake
Ingredients:
5 eggs / 5 biji telur
125 g sugar / 125 g gula
1 tsp vanilla / 1 sdt vanilla
15 gm ovelette / 15 g ovelette
40 ml water / 40 ml air
100 g flour / 100 g tepung
20 g cocoa powder / 20 g serbuk koko
1 tsp baking powder / 1 sdt baking powder
70 g butter / 70 g mentega – dicairkan
Directions:
- Combine and mix all ingredients except butter till soft and fluffy./
Pukul semua bahan kecuali mentega sehingga kembang dan gebu.
- Add in melted butter and combine well / Masukkan mentega cair dan gaul
rata.
- Pour into 8” baking sheet and bake at 180 C for 35 minutes / Tuang ke
dalam dulang pembakar 8” dan bakar pada suhu 180 C selama 35 minit.
- Leave to cool and cut into half / Biarkan sejuk dan potong dua.
- Spread with cream and stack the two layer / Sapukan dengan krim dan
cantum kedua cake ini.

Salam kak, coklat layer sponge kek tu sedapnyer! suami kita prefer jenis2 kek yg mcm ni berbanding yg moist2 gituu, kita pun suke jenis2 kek yg mcm ni kalau makan tak muak sgt, suke ler tgk krim dia tuu :D
