My friend with her family spent a night in house last night. She will be heading to Singapore today. She told me that she has been craving for "putu mayyum" for quite sometimes. She couldn't find any in her housing area. So last night I bought the putu mayyum and steam them this morning. Since I'm preparing and Indian breakfast may as well I made a complete set. I drove to the market this morning got some chicken and made curry chicken to savour with the putu mayyum. I also bought some Idli's from my favourite Indian Restuarant and the wner gave me generous coconut chutnet and sambal for my Idli. Perfect!!!! I have a complete Indian breakfast on this Great Sunday. Lovely !!!!! I love both..but I'm struggling trying to master the skills of making it. Both need special tools to prepare...since I'm the only one at home love these two dishes...so it's not worth making it. I normally have it in the restuarant.
I have made an entry on putu mayyum before and have given a brief explanation on it. You can refer to my previous entry if you wish to know about putu mayyum. As for Idli here's a bried description from Wikipedia :-
Idli (English pronunciation: /ˈɪdliː/, also romanized
"idly" or "iddly", plural "idlis"; Kannada:
is a savory cake of south Indian origin popular throughout India. The cakes are
usually two to three inches in diameter and are made by steaming a batter
consisting of fermented black lentils (de-husked) and rice. The fermentation
process breaks down the starches so that they are more readily metabolized by
the body.
You can find idlis in most of the Indian restuarant, very tasty and delicious. On top of these Indian breakfast I made some waffles for the children. A simple banana waffles with chocolate sauce.
I don't really have recipe for today's breakfast, they were from the restuarant and if you wish to try my Mamak Style Chicken Curry you can Click Here and for the Banana Waffle please refer to my next entry. Enjoy your breakfast and have a NICE DAY
Berborak-borak petang semalam dia terlepas cakap kata dia sudah bertahun-tahun tak makan putu mayyum...katanya susah hendak mencari putu mayyum ditempatnya. Mendengar tu... semalam saya sempat curi keluar belikan putu mayyum., taklah beritahu dia.
Sekarang diaorang dah on their way t Singapore and I hope they enjoy their stay in my home.

ReplyDeleteAslmkm KakPaty. Along pun rindu nak makan putu mayom, fevret dari kecik2 tapi kat Miri takda. KakPaty poskan kat Along ya....hehe.
ReplyDeleteSalam kak,
ReplyDeleteSaya pun suka putu mayam/mayom tu. Suka letak kelapa banyak.
It is a pleasure to go through your recipes and find so many similarities in our cuisines. The variations are even more interesting. Puttu Mayyum as you call it, would be 'nool puttu'/ idiyyappam for us Malayalees. The Curry looks rich and inviting! :-)
